National Association of Public Health Practitioners of Nigeria was incorporated in Nigeria under the Federal Republic of Nigeria Decree 1, 1990 with the incorporation number 121726 on the 5th of December, 2018.
The bill for an act to establish the Public Health Practitioners Council of Nigeria was sponsored by the association in March 2021 after three years of operation.
The first and second reading of the bill was read in the National Assembly on 3rd of March, 2021 and June 2022 respectively while the public hearing was held on the 22nd and 23rd of March, 2022. The bill was however passed into law at the floor of the National Assembly on Wednesday, 20th of July, 2022. The purpose of the bill is to advance the study, training and practice of Public Health Management and Administration in Nigeria.
Contained in the order paper of the Federal lawmakers read by Hon. Tanko Sanunu, Chairman Committee on Health is the consideration reports with emphasis on No 18 thus read “that the house do consider the report of the committee on Healthcare Services on the bill for an act to establish Public Health Practitioners Council of Nigeria, with the responsibility of advancing the study, training, and practice of Public Health Management and Administration in Nigeria and for other related matters(HB 1236)”.
